Back-to-School

This year, Ariel is off to Middle School and while she has been excited about the prospects of going to a new school and changing classes, I have been the exact opposite. I was feeling like she just wasn't ready or at least I wasn't ready to have a child in Middle School or all the other stuff that comes along with having a child on the cusp of the dreaded teenage years.
After helping her making it to her first class, I was a little teary eyed when I got back to the car. It reminded of the time I was dropping her off for Kindergarten and that I am forced to face the fact that they will grow up and not be a baby forever.

Every year I take a picture of her and her teacher on the first day of school. Now, because she is older, I wasn't going to actually take the pictures in class. However, I did have my eye on taking them with the lake that the school sits on, in the background. She had other ideas. I grabbed the camera on the way out the door and I heard a loud long breath behind me. Then as we were getting out of the car, she said to me that we can't take pictures there. Let's go right here. Now right here was a far away corner. It was about as far away as you could possibly get from the other students. This is the first picture I got. I call this "The this is so lame look!"

But she knew that I wasn't going to stop until I got a pretty decent one. So this is the picture that was next. So I got exactly two pictures before she was off. Sheesh!

And real estate too!

I met Amy while working at Sarasota Memorial Hospital (SMH). We both were working there as Respiratory Therapist. She joined me on night shift, and we bonded easily talking endlessly about our mutual passions; hers is real estate and mine is photography. She recently contacted me and asked would I take photos of her house that she just renovated and is now listing to sell. I never pass up a photo opportunity :0)!
Amy is a Real Estate Agent for Prudential (and as soon as I find the link I will post it!). She is really good at what she does and I can tell that she absolutely loves it. I guess that's how you can tell if people love what they do because it just leaks out of them. I hear the excitement when she talks, it makes me excited too. Also, the fact that the work she has done to her own house is absolutely impressive. Congratulations Amy and good luck!

Creating a Paper Trail

DSC00396
I came up with these flyers to get the word out about my photography.

DSC00401
As Ariel and I were busy stapling business cards to the flyer and then rolling them up to be stuffed in mailboxes or doors. I was reminded of an Oprah Show where she asked the question, "How many of us know our neighbors?" The people that live next door or down the street from you for years and never say anything more to them than the casual hello. So I vow to stop and chat with each neighbor that I encounter on this fine Saturday morning! So go on, stop and chat with your neighbor today. After all it's Saturday, no need to be rushing off to work.

That's what me and my trusty box will be doing today.

I'm Official!

DSC00336(blog)
Yes, I'm official.....there's no turning back now! I have been working on these promotional cards (not sure this is the official name for them) to hand out to people I meet on my daily excursions. They just announce my Grand Opening and are choke full of pictures detailing my work.

DSC00343(blog) This is of course the back.

DSC00345(blog)
And yep, you guessed it! These are my new business cards. They are hot off the press; I just picked them up yesterday.

Acrobatics

DSC00186(blog)
When I point the camera at Ariel, this is usually what I get. Lots of funny faces.

DSC00187(blog) Then next comes all the funny body positions.

But then she settles down and takes a nice picture.

Cheesy Smile

DSC00192(blog)
When do kids learn to do the cheesy smile? I guess it is just practice for smiling on command. Anyway, we were at the beach and I told Cailin to look at the camera and smile. I was really surprised because she actually did it! This big cheesy grin. You know what? I love it! I love my little baby's smile.

6 months

DSC00328(blog)
Yep, I'm 6 months pregnant and excited as can be! Nope, we don't know what we are having. It will be our December surprise. I don't have any maternity photos of me from my previous pregnancies. I mean, I do have pictures of me while pregnant, but they aren't maternity pictures. Instead they are pictures that happen to be taken while pregnant. So, I decided I would be taking a belly portrait every month to document this pregnancy.

DSC00332(blog)
I'm having fun with this, if you can't tell. I think this one is my absolute favorite so far.

Although, I can't decide if I like it best in color or black and white.

Me.....

DSC00231(blog)

Hello! I'm Keshia of KLC Portraits. I am a married mom of 2 beautiful girls, ages 11 and 2 years. My hobbies are photography (of course), cooking, and reading. I love watching the food network channel. I can watch it all day, much to my family's dismay. I just have it on the t.v. as background noise. I also read constantly, it is pretty what I do in my free time. The kids and I visit the library at least once weekly. Just give me a book and a quiet house and the day will silently slip away.
My husband, Jerry wasn't in love with this picture I posted of myself. He said that I should have used a more flattering image. I should have dressed up, but I protested and said, "This is what I look like 90% of the time". This is me with no make-up, growing out eyebrows, and my usual standard clothing- t-shirt, cargo pants, and flip flops. I guess he was sort of correct, in that I do dress up some of the time; like for weddings and other special events.
I'm ecstatic about the start of my photography business. I am finally doing it and I just can't believe it's true! Can you feel my excitement?! Yep, I am open for business and ready to come and hang out with your family! I can't wait to meet you!

Contact

About the Photographer
My love of photography has always been there. It blossomed when I had my first child. I always kept a box camera around and would often snap pictures of her playing, drawing, and us just hanging out. I found what I loved the most was having her look at the albums I'd created and really enjoying the stories that the photos reminded me of. She loved (and still does) hearing stories about her younger self.
My obsession :) with photography started with the birth of my second child and the breaking of my digital camera. This is when I discovered DSLR cameras and the bells and whistles of photography.
So, simply put- I love what photography stands for- memories and I love capturing celebrations of love and family. I believe everyone should have portraits detailing the relationship between you and your loved ones. I would love to do that for you. If you would like to contact me about a photo session or for more information, drop me a few lines by email at KLCportraits@gmail.com
